D6DA12: DOCK 6 COLLECTIVE DESIGN & ART 12
ARTIST-COLLECTIVE STUDIO OPEN HOUSE FEATURING LOCAL ART, FURNITURE DESIGN, AND FUNCTIONAL OBJECTS

CHICAGO, IL—Local co-operated design collective DOCK 6 is pleased to announce the 12th edition of its Design & Art Series occurring Saturday, May 18th, 2PM–8PM. This wildly popular design & art showcase first premiered in 2010 (beginning as a semi-annual), and has since invited hundreds of artists, designers, and curators to create fascinating, diverse shows of contemporary art and design pieces installed amongst the tools and machinery of a raw, working studio space. Hosted at DOCK 6’s sprawling Austin/Belmont-Cragin neighborhood headquarters, the event is free and open to the public.

The Design & Art Series has made “Best-Of” lists in Chicago publications for years and attendance has swelled to over 2,000 on some occasions. 2019 participants include the DOCK 6 Collective members Carson Maddox Studios, -ism Furniture, Lagomorph Design, Navillus Woodworks, SAP Design, and zakrose. Participating artists include Cody Hudson, Torkwase Dyson, Sonnenzimmer, Norman Kelley, Nate Young, Jordan Martins, Edra Soto, Paul Nudd, Bob Faust, Rodrigo Lara, and many more.

Sponsors and Partners of this year’s event include Burnt City Brewing Company, Marz Community Brewing Company, Hopewell Brewing Company, Solemn Oath Brewery, L'Patron, Our House Pizza. Music by Chirp Radio, DJ Sadie Woods, Pulaski Squares, and Ambusher.

Founded in 2009, DOCK 6 Collective has become one of Chicago’s premier design and custom fabrication studios. Comprised of six distinct artist-driven businesses, DOCK 6 is a collective of independent designers and fabricators who advocate for themselves, but also function as a group. Carson Maddox Studios, -ism Furniture, Lagomorph Design, Navillus Woodworks, SAP Design, and zakrose not only share the two-floor, 50K square-foot warehouse space, but they also share fabrication knowledge, labor, skill-sets, and tools to deliver finely crafted, thoughtfully produced work to architects, interior designers, retailers, contractors, and residential clients. Also known as a hub for the Chicago visual arts community, DOCK 6 fosters a platform for open dialogue between artists and designers through seasonal events that are open to the public.
